The Essential Facts of Backgammon Tactics – Part 2
Posted in Backgammon on 09/17/2025 09:25 am by JillianAs we have dicussed in the last article, Backgammon is a casino game of talent and luck. The aim is to move your chips safely around the game board to your home board and at the same time your opposing player moves their chips toward their home board in the opposite direction. With opposing player checkers shifting in opposing directions there is bound to be conflict and the requirement for specific techniques at particular times. Here are the 2 final Backgammon techniques to finish off your game.
The Priming Game Tactic
If the goal of the blocking tactic is to slow down the opponent to shift his checkers, the Priming Game plan is to absolutely barricade any movement of the opposing player by assembling a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The competitor’s checkers will either get bumped, or result a battered position if he ever tries to leave the wall. The ambush of the prime can be setup anyplace between point two and point 11 in your half of the board. As soon as you have successfully constructed the prime to stop the activity of the competitor, your competitor does not even get to roll the dice, and you shift your checkers and toss the dice again. You will be a winner for sure.
The Back Game Plan
The aims of the Back Game plan and the Blocking Game tactic are very similar – to hinder your opponent’s positions hoping to improve your chances of winning, however the Back Game tactic relies on seperate tactics to achieve that. The Back Game strategy is often employed when you’re far behind your opponent. To compete in Backgammon with this strategy, you need to hold 2 or more points in table, and to hit a blot (a single checker) late in the game. This plan is more complex than others to employ in Backgammon because it requires careful movement of your checkers and how the chips are relocated is partially the outcome of the dice roll.
